Shannon Craig Morphew Exhibition
May 14, 2011
- May 31, 2011
Loch Gallery, 16 Hazelton Avenue, Toronto
In this first solo exhibition with the Loch Gallery, Shannon Craig Morphew exhibits the powerful linear and highly energetic paintings for which she has become known.
Shannon was born into a creative family in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1977. Upon completion of studies at Sheridan College and the Ontario College of Art in 2001, she decided to pursue her commitment to painting full time. Solo exhibitions in both Toronto and Ottawa since 2002 have led to a strong following of her work.
In this new series, the artist expands her narrative beyond the country fields, dramatic skies and fast moving streams to interpret the still-life and portrait format. Influenced by Japanese woodblock prints, the artist's style of active brushwork, minimal colour and dream-like compositions expresses a very personal creative vision.
