Originally from Toronto, she is an alumnus of the University of Toronto where she earned a BA in Anthropology in 1992 and Sheridan School of Crafts and Design, where she majored in Ceramics, graduating in 1999. Following graduation from Sheridan, Laura spent three years as an artist-in-residence in the ceramics studio of Harbourfront Centre in downtown Toronto.

Laura was selected this year as one of Ceramics Monthly’s 2007 Emerging Artists, featured in the May issue. She has won several awards in Canada and the United States, including in 2002, an Emerging Artists grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. Most recently, her work was included in the Juried Exhibition Regional Juried Ceramics Competition at the University of Dallas, where she was awarded “Best of Show” and was invited to have a solo exhibition in March, 2008. Sheridan Memories
The two full-time faculty members of the Ceramics Program of the School of Crafts and Design have had the greatest impact on Laura and her career as an artist and as a teacher. Bruce Cochrane and Winn Burke were very different in personality and approach, but having the two of them guiding her was invaluable. Together, they taught Laura the importance of paying close attention to what she was making as well as to why she was making it. Both had so much experience as teachers and as artists, and she think of them often when she am in my own classroom or in her own studio.
