Members of Sheridan's Executive team and our Emergency Preparedness Committee met yesterday with four senior officers from the Halton Police for an extensive debriefing session regarding the lockdown on Friday, February 8th. We had a very informative and useful discussion, during which the Police were highly complimentary about Sheridan's emergency planning and our execution of the lockdown procedures.

One of the issues which arose during our discussion was the need for police to continue to familiarize themselves with the physical layout of our campuses. This process began last October, when police undertook familiarization tours of Sheridan in conjunction with our lockdown simulation exercise.

As a result, you will be seeing police officers on the Oakville and Brampton campuses starting today, as they continue the process of familiarization with every area of our expansive campus locations. We expect that the police presence on our campuses will continue periodically in the future, as more front-line officers engage in the familiarization process. We are confident that this will further enhance the security of our students, faculty and staff in the event of future emergency situations.

During our debriefing session yesterday, it was noted that there have been five shootings on university campuses in the United States in the past week alone. Our thoughts and prayers are with those communities as they deal with the aftermath of these tragic events and begin their journey of recovery and healing.
