Family Literacy Day

January 27, 2011
Trafalgar Road Campus, Oakville and Davis Campus, Brampton

Every year, on January 27, families and communities across Canada celebrate Family Literacy Day® (FLD), a national initiative that promotes the importance of reading and learning together as a family.

The Early Childhood Education Department of Sheridan would like to celebrate FLD by once again providing the college community with a place to donate new and gently used books.  This year, your book donations will support HIPPY Oakville (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters).  HIPPY’s goal is to prepare vulnerable children for success in school, and helps parents learn how easy, fun and rewarding it is to teach their children at home. http://www.hippycanada.ca/

We would love to receive good quality books for 3, 4 and 5 year olds to donate to HIPPY Oakville.  As well, we would appreciate books for Moms (often described as “airport books” – the quick read, thriller, mystery type of book that will grab their attention and encourage them to finish the book).

Over the upcoming two week period, January 24 to February 7, 2011, please help support the efforts of the ECE department by dropping off new or gently used books at the following locations.

Trafalgar Campus

Room C227: School of Community and Liberal Studies

Room B104: Student Advisement Centre

Room B101: Continuing Education Office

Davis Campus

Room B294: School of Community and Liberal Studies

Room B231: Student Advisement Centre

Room 212e: Continuing Education Office
