The Journalism New-Media graduate certificate program at the Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning provides college, university, and mature applicants with journalistic training aimed at preparing them for careers in the fields of journalism and information management. You will learn the basic and fundamental skills required to work as a journalist, such as researching, interviewing, reporting and writing. You will also be trained to use state-of-the-art digital equipment and technology, such as cameras, video editing, software, website design programs, content management systems and social media tools.
While most academic programs claim they are preparing you for a career in this constantly changing field, we are actually doing it. It's more than just re-purposing news and information content for the web. You'll learn different ways to tell stories through layering and participatory and/or crowd-sourced methods. You'll learn how to gather and manage information and to display it through data visualization. You'll learn how to draw from your already vast repertoire of academic and life skills to help you launch a successful career and/or business as a journalist or subject matter expert. At Sheridan, you'll learn how to think "out-of-the-box" and how to use new and exciting content management tools to elevate your storytelling and journalistic skills to exciting new levels. Rigorous assignments and projects that you create yourself will equip you with portfolios that are eye-catching to potential employers.
Students learn in a project-based environment. That means your assignments will evolve around several existing publications and shows. Students who achieve a professional level of expertise will have their work published and aired.

The program is enjoying incredible success as graduates go on to exciting, successful careers. We are documenting their success through the creation of a Wall of Fame at the Oakville campus established in 2007. Inductees to the Wall of Fame return to guest lecture and share their stories with new students.
