Sheridan’s Pharmacy Technician diploma program gives you the specialized training you need to work as a pharmacy technician in a community or hospital pharmacy. You'll learn in state-of-the-art facilities designed to replicate the set up in a hospital, retail, long-term and compounding pharmacy. The program is accredited by the Canadian Council for Accredited Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) and thus you'll be eligible to write the national licensing exam to become a registered pharmacy technician.
Through the Pharmacy Technician Program, you'll learn and sharpen skills such as:
- Reading and interpreting drug orders
- Processing prescriptions using different software commonly used in retail and hospital pharmacy setting
- Third party insurance billing
- Dispensing medications for public and long term care recipients.
- Compounding (IV admixtures, TPN, sterile preparations, etc.)
- Inventory management
- Front store marketing
- Communication and interpersonal skills for dealing with the public
Sheridan’s Pharmacy Technician Program presents innovative delivery methods to suit many learning styles. In-class lectures, practical hands-on learning, online courses, case studies, and discussion boards are only a few examples of our delivery methods.
Practica
All students must complete a four-week field placement of 160 hours in a retail pharmacy and a four-week placement of 160 hours in a hospital pharmacy at the end of Term 4. These placements give students an opportunity to obtain on the job experience.
Additional Requirements
Before you can begin the Pharmacy Technician Program, you'll need to obtain, at your own expense, a valid CPR certificate (Heartsaver), Standard First Aid and a police check. A current up to date immunization record is required prior to the field placements.
The Pharmacy Technician Program is located at the Davis Campus in Brampton, Ontario.
Sheridan graduates are in high demand. When you complete your Pharmacy Technician diploma program, you'll be ready to take a position in:

- A computer company helping evaluate and design pharmacy software

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:
- One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)
plus
- One Mathematics, Grade 12 (C or U) with a minimum of 70%
- Biology, Grade 11 (C or U)
- Chemistry, Grade 12 (C or U) or Chemistry, Grade 11 (U)
or
Mature student status. (See "Admissions" section for details.)
APPLICANT SELECTION
Eligible applicants will be selected on the basis of their previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses).
Applicants will be required to complete pre-admission testing to demonstrate proficiency.
English proficiency requirements for the Pharmacy Technician program (PPHTN) are as follows: TOEFL 91 (21L, 25W, 23S, 22R); IELTS 6.5 Overall Band Score with no Band below 6.0.
Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK AND IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS
Sheridan field placement agencies may require a police record check for criminal offences, a vulnerable sector check and/or a current acceptable record of immunization. Students will be required to provide this documentation directly to their field placement prior to the start of the placement and at their own expense.
