Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Convocation 2012
- Can I get a letter confirming my eligibility to attend convocation so my parents overseas can get a Visitor's VISA?
If you require a letter confirming your eligibility to attend convocation for Visitor VISA's, please contact the Office of the Registrar.
- I am not able to attend convocation and would like my diploma mailed to me.
If you have changed your mind about attending Convocation after you have already Applied to Graduate, go back into the Apply to Graduate site and change your choice to Not Attend. Your Diploma will be mailed to you after Convocation is complete.
- My name and address have changed from what is currently on Sheridan's files.
- What can I purchase at Convocation?
A photographer will be on site to take your photos, DVDs of the entire ceremony will be available for sale, Bouquets of Flowers, Rings and Souvenirs of Sheridan from the bookstore and Frames for your Diploma will all be on sale at Convocation.
- Is it possible to be put on a waiting list for extra tickets?
When you Apply to Graduate you can request to be put on the waiting list for extra tickets. Once all students have applied to graduate and we determine how many of these will actually be graduating and how many have decided not to attend convocation, we will calculate if any additional tickets are left over. We will issue these additional tickets to students who have requested them, based on the date requested. You will receive an additional e-mail telling you that you have received additional tickets.
- Do I need a ticket or are the tickets for my guests only?
Students do not need a ticket for themselves. The tickets that we issue to you are for your guests only.
- I don't understand why students are only allowed 2 guests?
The Living Arts Centre only has 1300 seats. The number of graduates attending convocation varies between 350 – 400 per ceremony. If each of these students brings 2 guests this will take 1200 seats. Some ceremonies have less than this number which allows us to reissue these additional tickets.
- Can children attend the ceremony? Are there any age restrictions for children?
Children are allowed to attend but not recommended. Anyone older than 3 years will need their own ticket. The ceremony will be at least one and a half hour in length plus the time before the start of the ceremony; this can be a long period for children to sit.
- Where do I get my gown? Should I tell you what size I am?
You will pick up the gown on the day of your ceremony at the Living Arts Centre. The size is determined by your height, you can select the appropriate size online when you Apply to Graduate.
- What time do I have to be at the Living Arts Centre on the day of my Convocation?
We ask that you arrive one hour prior to your ceremony to get your gown and your marshalling card with plenty of time to get lined up alphabetically before the ceremony starts.
- I have lost my tickets, what should I do? Can you re-issue them?
If you have misplaced your tickets you should be able to reprint them from your e-mail. If not, please have your guests check in at the Sheridan Ticket booth on the day of your ceremony and we will re-issue them to you. (Your guests will require your student number for this).
- What should I wear?
We suggest for women and men business or business casual attire. However, it can be quite warm under the gown so we suggest something cool.
- Can I keep the gown?
No. Robes and/or hoods removed from the Living Arts Centre will be charged to the graduate.
- What should I do if I've forgotten my username or password.
If you have forgotten or misplaced your username or password, our Contact Centre can assist you. Please call 905-845-9430 and select option #3 for Continuing Education or option #4 for Postsecondary.
