Technology Services

Information Technology is the hub for technology-based services at Sheridan. We support and enrich the experience of all users – students, faculty and staff – by providing the technology resources and infrastructure necessary to connect people to their goals.

Innovation

Fostering the spirit of innovation through technology, Sheridan's I.T. department has been, and will continue to be, at the forefront of many technological initiatives and achievements, including:
  • deploying SIREN (Sheridan Incident Response and Emergency Notification) – a comprehensive, first of its kind Emergency Notification System
  • spearheading the rich media technology project that was recently launched as Sheridan Shine Brighter – a website designed to showcase the work of Sheridan's students, faculty and staff
  • pioneering the integration of mobile computing technology into the teaching environment
  • optimizing the teaching environment for the delivery of new technologies
  • being one of the first organizations in the world to implement a Cisco enterprise VoIP solution
  • developing the technical infrastructure for VROC (Virtual Researcher On Call) – a project designed to link Canadian high school students with top researchers from the scientific community via leading-edge HD video conferencing

Opportunity

I.T. is a proud supporter of Sheridan students and provides real-world learning experiences for select students in cooperative education programs. Our co-op students' in-class learning is enhanced with valuable, hands-on experience that further prepares them for today's demanding and changing workplaces. Our co-op students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness needed for continuous on-the-job learning—skills that are vital in a world of rapidly changing and emerging technologies. We are also thrilled to have employed many of our co-op students upon graduation.

I.T. also provides part-time employment opportunities for students to work in our Instructional Technology Support Centres (ITSCs) as front-line support or Tech Tutors. Tech Tutors are Sheridan students enrolled in a Mobile Computing program who are accomplished computer users and wish to be involved in assisting others in laptop care and use.

Support

I.T. is committed to supporting and improving the learning, teaching and administrative functions at Sheridan. Students and staff can access the I.T. website to connect to the resources and services they need to get connected to technology at Sheridan. Peruse our site and discover all we have to offer.
