Welcome to the Winter 2012 semester! Sheridan wants your transition to be a smooth one. Below is a list of the things you need to do to get started. Remember - school starts on Monday, January 9, 2012.

TIMETABLES:

Winter 2012: Key dates for timetables
December 15 from 8.30 a.m. Timetables for Winter 2012 available (provided students have paid their fees.)
December 15 Students can start choosing their electives as of December 15th and are encouraged to choose their elective by December 18th. Selecting your elective early will provide you with the most elective options.
December 15 Timetable course add, swap and drop opens
January 2 Cross campus course add, swap and drop opens
January 13 Last day to add a course or swap a class online
January 20 Last day to drop a course online

You will be able to view your timetable from December 15. To access your timetable – log into myStudent Centre with your user name and password*, and follow the instructions below:

  • Click on the Enroll link under Academics
  • Click on Weekly Calendar View – your timetable is date sensitive; fill in ‘Week of:’ as 01/09/2012
Returning postsecondary students will be able to swap and drop classes online, myStudent Centre. The Add/ Swap/ Drop facility will open on December 15. Classes can be added or swapped until January 13, 2012 and dropped until January 20, 2012.

ADVANCED STANDING
If you have taken courses at another college or university within the past five years, you may be eligible for Advanced Standing (an exemption from one or more of your Sheridan courses). To get more information about applying for Advanced Standing, visit the Student Advisement Centre.

FINANCIAL AID (OSAP):

OSAP funding certificates for the Winter 2012 term will be available for pick up from Wednesday, January 4, 2012. In order to streamline the process, students must book a pickup time throughmyStudent Centre.

Once it has received their OSAP funding certificates, Sheridan will notify students by email that they must book an appointment to pick up their funds. Click here for more information on booking an appointment and OSAP pickup. Online booking of appointments will start on December 12, 2011 and will continue through to January 20, 2012. After January 20, 2012, OSAP funding certificates will be handed out on a first come/first served basis so no appointment will be necessary.

Returning students will only be able to collect their OSAP funds provided they are in good academic standing and eligible to progress to the Winter 2012 term. 

Please remember to bring your Social Insurance Card, your valid, government-issued photo ID (ie Driver's Licence, Passport) and a void cheque (or bank account number and branch transit number) with you. Please check the status of your OSAP application on the OSAP website (http://osap.gov.on.ca) before you come in to book your appointment to ensure that your funds have been printed.

Those students with a May Not Continue (NC) or Academic Probation status where they are directed that they MUST see their academic advisor (AP2) may not collect OSAP funding until their academic standing indicates that they are allowed to continue in their program.

Keep in mind:

  • Loans are not automatically deposited into your account at the beginning of the term
  • You need to visit the Financial Aid Office (Trafalgar Road– Room D100, Davis – Room B216, HMC - Student Services Centre: Room A148) to pick up your OSAP funding each semester you are attending Sheridan and have applied for OSAP assistance
  • Before visiting the Financial Aid Office and/or waiting in line, you are encouraged to:
    • log in to your OSAP application at http://osap.gov.on.ca and check the status of your application (click on 'Total Funding' to ensure funding has been issued)
    • ensure you have the required identification and banking information which includes:
      • Social Insurance Card
      • valid government issued photo ID
      • a void cheque or your bank account number and bank transit number
    • The National Student Loans Service Centre will be on-campus.


GENERAL EDUCATION, BREADTH AND PROGRAM ELECTIVES:
Online selection of cross college general education course electives will begin December 15th. Students are encouraged to choose their electives by December 18th. Selecting your elective early will provide you with the most elective options. If you are required to select an elective class, you will receive notification via myStudent Centre. Visit mytimetable.sheridaninstitute.ca for more information on electives.

TEXTBOOKS AND BOOKLISTS
It is recommended that you do not buy your textbooks until you have been given an official list of the required textbooks needed for each of your courses. This list is distributed by your professors during Orientation and during the first week of class. Your timetable acts as an unofficial booklist; each course has a code that includes 4 letters and 5 numbers (eg. MATH 10002) as well as an instructor’s name. This information corresponds with your textbooks in the Bookstore . If you buy your books early, hold on to your receipt and keep your books in pristine condition until you are sure you will not need to return them.

PARKING PASSES
If you have prepaid or need to pay for a parking permit, please visit the front counter of the Office of the Registrar at any campus (Trafalgar – Room D100, Davis – Room B201, Skills Training Centre – Room A1)

Student Parking at the Hazel McCallion Campus in Mississauga

All students who drive to the Hazel McCallion Campus will be required to purchase a City of Mississauga parking pass. The passes will have both "Sheridan" and the City of Mississauga embossed on them to set them apart from the general City parking passes. These passes will cost $300 for 2 semesters or $160 for one semester (including taxes). Passes will only be sold by the City. Parking passes will not be available in the course of paying tuition. All staff and student City of Mississauga passes, that include the Sheridan logo, will be accepted at Davis, Trafalgar and STC.

Parking passes may be purchased as follows:

Permits and Multi-Visit Cards are sold at the cashiers counter on the ground floor of the Civic Centre and may be purchased prior to January 9. All purchases of Permits and Multi-Visit Cards must be accompanied by a completed form. The forms are available at the link below, as well as in person at the Civic Centre cashiers counter.

Additional information:

  • Student passes from STC, Davis or Trafalgar will not be accepted at the Hazel McCallion Campus, on the street or at the Living Arts Centre
  • parking will be on a first-come, first-served basis
  • parking after 6 will require either a Sheridan/City parking pass or will require a temporary permit which will be purchased via the parking terminals
  • security will be available in the lots using the City of Mississauga's CODE blue system (same as Sheridan)
  • safe-walk program will be in effect - please talk with security
  • parking will be enforced by the City of Mississauga


GO TRANSIT STICKERS
Full-time Sheridan College students are eligible for GO Transit student fares. If you are planning to use GO Transit, visit the Information Technology Support Centre (ITSC) in the Learning Commons at the Davis, Hazel McCallion and Trafalgar Road campuses. Staff in the ITSC will affix a GO Transit sticker to your Sheridan student ID card. Students at the Skills Training Centre can obtain their stickers from the Office of the Registrar located in room A1.
