International Students and Language Assessment

Essential Communication Skills (ECS) (course code COMM19999) is a mandatory component of some programs. Students who are required to take ECS as part of their program must first complete a language assessment prior to the start of classes so they can be placed into the appropriate communications skills course.

International students who are required to take the ECS course as part of their program, and have completed a TOEFL, IELTS, EPA test or ESL program, are still required to take this Mandatory Language Assessment. The Language Assessment is written after you have been granted admission to a program.

If you are placed into Basic Communication Skills based on the results of your Language Assessment, you will then need to complete Essential Communication Skills; a course fee will apply. You cannot graduate until you have completed the Essential Communication Skills course.

Please note that the last day to write the language assessment for international students will be August 31, 2012, at the Davis campus in Brampton after the New Student Orientation event and at the Trafalgar campus in Oakville in room B125 at 12 pm.
