An introduction to the basic principles and operations of AutoCAD 2011, this course includes:
- The AutoCAD Interface, including workspaces
- AutoCAD 2-D drawing, editing and viewing commands and concepts
- layers, colours, lineweights and linetypes
- creating text, dimensioning and hatching
- using blocks
- basic plotting
Prerequisite(s): An understanding of basic drafting terms is required.

This hands-on course provides a brief review of AutoCAD 2011 2-D commands then concentrates on intermediate AutoCAD concepts and features to enhance productivity. Topics include:
- drawing prototypes
- drawing standards, layers, dimensions and dimension styles
- intermediate level usage of blocks
- External References (XREFs)
- introduction to attributes and data extraction
- advanced paper space and model space concepts (Layouts)
- intermediate file management and plotting techniques
- CAD Customization

This course emphasizes productivity enhancement. The participant studies advanced level AutoCAD commands, the drawing database, and data extraction. Topics include:
- basic 3-D concepts and commands
- the AutoCAD database system
- productivity enhancements
- tips and tricks
- interfacing with third-party software
- Windows OLE, cut, paste, and compound document creation and editing using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
- 3-D modelling and 2-D drawing
Prerequisite(s): AutoCAD - Level 2, or equivalent experience.

The potentials of using 3-D features of AutoCAD 2011 to explore and test architectural designs are examined. Particular emphasis is placed on using ACIS solid modelling effectively and productively. You are expected to have a thorough understanding of the 2-D features of AutoCAD.

Autodesk 3ds Max Design software enables architects, designers, and visualization specialists to fully explore, validate, and communicate their creative ideasfrom concept models to cinema-quality visualizations. It delivers powerful, new lighting simulation and analysis technology, advanced rendering capabilities, and faster, more integrated workflows with the AutoCAD and Revit software families of products.
This course demonstrates the capabilities of Autodesk 3ds Max Design for proposal and design work. Topics include:
- introduction to the Autodesk 3ds Max Design Interface
- working with viewports
- creating and manipulating objects, including AEC objects
- linking AutoCAD and/or Revit drawings to Autodesk 3ds Max Design
- introduction to the Material Editor
- assigning materials
- using lights/cameras in scenes
- rendering
- basic animation

Learn how parts and assemblies can be created using Autodesk Inventor 2011. Inventor basics such as creating sketches, part modelling, and creating and editing sheet metal parts are introduced. Additional topics include:
- the Inventor Interface

- creating drawings from parts and assemblies
- driven parts
- adaptive design

This course explores many advanced features and tools in Autodesk Inventor. These tools allow you to use Autodesk Inventor to its fullest, and covers a wide variety of functions. Topics include:
- parameters - linking to Excel spreadsheets
- advanced presentation tools - camera angles, tasks and sequences
- Ifeatures, Iparts and Imates
- part factories
- Idrop technology
- construction surfaces
- motion and transitional constraints
- importing data from other CAD programs

Revit is a Building Information Modeler. This course covers the basics of Autodesk Revit Architecture 2011, from Building Design through construction documentation. Students will be introduced to the concepts of Building Information Modeling and the tools for parametric design and documentation. Sheridan offers both imperial and metric hands-on exercises representing real-world design scenarios. Topics include:
- Basic Revit concepts
- The Revit user interface
- Projects
- Views and Visibility
- Designing with components: walls, doors, windows, floors.
- Creating drawing sheets and schedules.
Prerequisite(s): Good drafting knowledge and familiarity with computers.

This course explores the 3-D solid modelling capability of AutoCAD 2011's modelling engine applied to the mechanical engineering field. Basic 3-D commands that affect ACIS modelling will be covered as well. Topics include:
- AutoCAD's User Coordinate System (UCS)
- creating multiple views
- basic 3-D concepts
- 3-D solid primitives
- Boolean operations on solids
- all Solid modelling related commands
- creating paper space and model space views (Layouts and Viewports)
- dimensioning and annotating solid models
- solid model memory management techniques
