As a Tourism and Travel student you'll:

  • Train on our live Galileo Global Distribution System (GDS), learning how to book flights, hotels and rental cars
  • Learn client retention strategies – one of the most valued skills in the industry today
  • Receive TICO training and pass the Education Standards exam that is mandated by the Government of Ontario for every person selling travel and providing travel counseling services in Ontario
  • Have the opportunity to earn an Associate Cruise Program (ACP) designation. This coupled with six months post-graduation experience qualifies you to pursue certification as an Accredited Cruise Counselor (ACC).
  • Spend 100 hours during Semester 4 in field placement within the travel and tourism industry gaining valuable field experience that helps you stand out from other job applicants
  • Plan actual meetings and events, selecting the venue and coordinating catering and entertainment

 

Mobile Computing

The Tourism and Travel Program has integrated the use of laptop computers in the delivery of many courses.  In these courses, both in class and out, you'll connect to class activities, notes and presentations via your laptop computer.  You have access to the materials 24/7 and can visit chatrooms to discuss assignments with classmates and/or professors.

Effective September 2011, all new students enrolling in the program will be required to provide a laptop computer.

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, including these required courses:

  • One English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or ENG4U)

or

Mature student status. (See "Admissions" section for details.)

Applicant Selection

 
Eligible applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement (the average of their six highest senior-level credits, including required courses).
 
Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to attend an information session. Although not a requirement, Grade 12 mathematics, basic computer skills, geography, and tourism and world issues are recommended. A second language is an asset.

Applicants who do not meet the admission requirements for this program will be assessed and advised individually and may be considered for other, related programs.

*Course duration for September starts is two academic years. Course duration for January starts is 16 months continuous.
